Were social workers invited to participate this show? We work in the hospitals and in the communities, despite of the Pandemic and Riots.

It’s not that they are getting too much credit it’s that essential workers don’t get enough credit any time outside of a crisis

The biggest frustration about the lockdown situation is that society is getting credit to the essential workers NOW, when people at the hospital, pharmacies, groceries', etc should get credit all the time. Because they are there for us, anytime we need something.
Just a reflexion
Lots of cheers and huge thanks to all those essential workers

I acknowledge that some of these people acknowledge other essential workers in other fields. I see everyone keeps forgetting about their bankers making themselves available to the public as well.

I’m happy other can see that essential worker are important too, I work at a daycare and everyday since this mess been going on, I been going to work. Most of the children’s parents at my daycare work in the medical field, and they have no one to watch their children, and they thank us for being open. I’m not saying I want all the free stuff Medical field folks getting, I just want to be appreciated for what I do❤️, because shoot we risk our lives too, to help others.

I don't think they are getting too much credit but I do think people are still not recognizing all of the other Essential workers. I only hear health care, ems, police, fire, grocery, drivers and restaurant workers. What about utilities, sanitation and communications. I work in communications. I work at a large telecommunications company that sells phones, TV and internet to the community and we NEVER closed, I have been talked down to and had hostility thrown my way for the simple fact that wait times for our call centers are longer and people NEED their internet to work from home and they wouldn't be in their house without entertainment such as phones, TV. And internet. I consistently have to tell people to stand 6 feet away. I can't get anymore cleaning supplies to sanitize my store because it's been panic purchased and I can't sanitize people's nasty phones for the same reason. I've had people tell me to my face that this is all just hoax while coughing in my store and in my general direction.

I was at a fast food restaurant in my city, and the workers were bombarded with orders. I witnessed multiple grubhub people scream at the counter workers for taking long and missing up orders. I then found out that that worker was a LINE COOK. Places are understaffed, stressed out, and frankly don't need people who will disrespect them. Its disgusting seeing the worst come out of people during this time.

As someone who has seen both sides of this as a student nurse who was on placement in the ICU and a supermarket worker, I feel like healthcare workers are definitely getting the recognition that they deserve but every other essential worker really isn't. When I'm at work as a cashier at the grocery store I'll get yelled at by customers over things that are completely out of my control, over things are are super insignificant. It makes me wonder are these same people calling healthcare workers heroes? This whole pandemic has really brought out the best and worst in people.

Meanwhile, in Australia school teachers are being forced back into classrooms of 30+ students without any protective gear, lacking supplies and health conditions like asthma. If our Prime Minister just said that they were sacrificial lambs in the mission to gain herd immunity through children, that would be a whole lot better than contradictory statements. I know in America a lot of teachers are allowed to teach from home, but our government doesn't think it's "necessary", claiming that children aren't at risk and social distancing doesn't apply (yet it applies everywhere else??). There are a lot of essential workers out there who are getting no recognition whatsoever - statements saying that nurses' student debt should be paid off is ridiculous - they aren't the only ones fighting this battle. Everyone needs to be acknowledged equally - if you're essential and still working, there is no difference in who is the most "heroic" because everyone is doing what they need to do (or are forced to do) in order to get through this pandemic.

Please don't forget Veterinarians and vet techs when talking about essential workers. They have been experiencing higher emergencies, job instability, exposure risk, higher euthanasias, less people opting to treat their pets, short staffing, and a supply shortages. No one really talks about them when discussing essential workers but they are still working and still risking exposure to make sure our beloved pets have access to healthcare. Now is a really good time to donate to local charities that help pay for animals procedures when owners can't afford them if you have the ability to do so. The hardest part of being in veterinary medicine is putting down an animal you know you could easily help if someone just had the money to make it happen, they need our support!

i think you tried to make the video seem controversial with that question, the video is not about that. The healthcare workers are getting the credit they deserve, the other essential workers don't. That's what supposed to be the point, the title is a bit off imo

I'm an RN graduate taking my NCLEX tomorrow and I am currently working in a grocery store to keep up with my bills. As someone who has experienced working in health care and working at a grocery store, I have an opinion to share. Working as a grocery clerk, I am at high risk for contracting the virus, and so I do appreciate that customers are generally quite respectful of me and appreciative of what my co-workers and I are doing. However, since this is a debate, I would have to disagree that other essential workers should be viewed equally as at risk at health care providers (HCPs)

At the grocery store, it's very possible for me to back away from people, to control the distance, and I have reasonable expectation that people who are symptomatic are either at the hospital or at home. We are given masks, have marked distance lines for customers to follow, and have installed shields for the cashiers. We limit the number of customers in the building at a time and our hours of public exposure are reduced. There is a level of control over our surroundings there, where it isn't necessary to touch customers or be in close contact, and I can see that being true of probably 90-95% of other essential jobs. For example, businesses like Petsmart, where you have to order online and then pick-up curbside. I apologize if you're one of the few essential workers who have to be in close, frequent contact with others (please share your occupation if you do! I'd love to be more aware of these workers!)

On the other hand, having worked many placements in various healthcare settings, I know that as an HCP, keeping a 6-foot distance from patients while providing care is literally impossible. It's necessary to touch people and be in very close contact with patients, and we are doing this over and over again throughout shifts. People are coming in with symptoms or weakened immune systems, so the risk of transmission from an infected individual is very high. HCPs who are in direct, frequent contact with COVID patients don't have enough PPE to feel safe. Most HCPs work 12 hour shifts, which just means more exposure. Also consider the emotional impact and distress of witnessing people die from COVID and families fall apart. To help visualize, I recently read an article that 1 in 10 positive COVID cases is an HCP. This is terrifying considering recent information telling us how COVID affects the entire organ system, not just the lungs, causing blood clots and strokes in the young and healthy and causing children to die of shock. HCPs, and their families, are in constant danger.

HCPs experience a disproportionately higher risk than the rest of the population, working or not. That is a fact that deserves all the recognition it currently has. To finish off my opinion, I think all essential workers are at high risk, but I don't believe the level of respect you have for someone should correlate to the level of risk they face. Credit is appreciated by every essential worker and its just a nice thing to do to say thank-you and be appreciative. We should really be decent human beings to each other, regardless of what our titles are.

P.S Some of these comments by people who feel entitled to credit and feel the need to complain about not getting enough need to re-think their sense of entitlement.

Tbh a lot of nurses are kinda pissed with our administration were getting called hero’s and are being spot lighted by the public but our hospital administrators are doing us dirty with the ppe wear it’s bullshit.
Anyone working during this pandemic is a hero even the people staying home are hero’s as far as I’m concerned.

As a volunteer firefighter for over 6 years, WE don’t get much, not money, no discounts at stores and restaurants, nothing(other than fire house subs). BUT at lest FOR ME I don’t need it, as long as I help people and make them in better health AND safety then they were before I got there, I did my job. The smile on people’s faces is the only pay I need. And I’m PROUD to be who I am!

I swear there is nothing more frustrating than working a 12 hour shift at the hospital. Getting home after never seeing your family for over 3 months, then trying to relax on YouTube and being questioned about if the work you do deserves the support. Thanks y’all ❤️🧡💛🤍🤎💚🖤

I love this. Nurses, doctors, EMTs they all get word first but no one thinks of the people that are actually cleaning these rooms and areas and setting them up. It's not them, nurses don't clean up after a labor where the mother had potential covid, it's the cleaners, housekeepers, janitors that are making sure everything is sanitized and clean

I love that the travel RN understands the issues other face who make minimum wage and who are basically forced to work right now. I’m losing almost 1/4 of my income due to hours being cut but I don’t qualify to get any sort of unemployment until my wages are cut in half. As if it wasn’t hard before. I know others have it worse so don’t come at me with that I’m just saying I like how she’s educated enough to know that a lot of different people are keeping this country running and getting no credit.
