I'm surprised the vets didn't recommend any wildlife rescues near you? I'm sure there are a few around London. I used to volunteer in one in East Sussex, most of our patients were pigeons <3

Me: well get a bag of seed open it and wait for the bird to start eating it then place your hand on there back move your middle finger behind the leg and your pointer,finger in front while not letting go of there wing then with the other hand put your middle finger behind the leg and your pointer finger in front of the leg and hold the wing down with your thumb

wait i had to do the same thing because a pigeon under my house wasn’t walking, but instead of doing everything phil did, i just used a towel and carried the pigeon into a shoebox and i took him home and he wasn’t eating so i called the vet and they said theyll take him by 4am??? so i had to stay up till 4am to make sure nothings happening to the him and i played some pigeon music (which didn’t help) and they took it away. now the pigeons safe, and is reunited with his family [i hope]
