We interview people who were kicked out of their homes as teens and had them talk about homelessness.

Small questions have powerful effects when they go viral. Cut spreads stories for fun, for serious, and for real– bringing the internet together one awkward moment at a time.

Man...I wish they’d do another one of these but with serious conversations.

Most people aren’t homeless by choice. They aren’t drug addicts or alcoholics. They’re people struggling to survive.

You may feel disgusted by the man pan handling but imagine the shame and complete loss of self worth he’s feeling.

The first thing that comes to mind during a hot summer day, a thunderstorm, or a blizzard is “fuck, there are people trying to survive in this.”

As someone who was homeless for nearly 5 years in Carson City I’d love to participate.

If you people really feel bad for the people in this video go to a shelter and spend some time with them. Hear their stories and try to appreciate what you have.

My parents kicked me out bc I quit my corporate job. I had to live in my car for 3.5 weeks in the dead of summer until I totalled it and almost died. It was the worst experience of my life. I've moved 18 times since then in less than a yr.

I feel like one misconception about those who are homeless is that they are lazy and they need to get a job. Frankly it’s not as simple as that. People don’t want to hire the homeless and don’t want to hire those who they don’t see fit, based on appearance. It’s not impossible to make it out and to get a job, but it’s not as simple as that for many. One thing that always sticks with me, as cliche as it is, never judge a person until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.

I thought I was going to hate this video because most media portrayals I've seen of people who are currently experiencing or have previously experienced homelessness spread harmful messages without intending to. I think this video was actually pretty on point though.

Watching videos like these hit so different now that I'm an adult struggling to pay my bills and realising how easy it is to end up in such a situation.

When I was younger there was a point where my mother & I bumped heads a lot. She use to always threaten me with "I'm going to kick you out the house". . . And one day I actually picked up and left, I guess she never expected for me to leave and it really broke her heart. . . I'm older now, and have my own family & house, my mom's my bestfriend now ❤

Homeless...I was 15 when I started my journey into the unknown that would last for almost 10 years. The summer time was the worst part. I didn't mind the winters much because the frigid air would bring a numbness to my skin that made it feel almost unreal, but the summer heat brought reality.

Food was scarce. Sometimes I would go days without even a crumb to eat. Water to drink was never an issue in the summer time, thanks to the faucets at the local park and its public restrooms.Water to drink in the winter was a little harder to come by. I would either have to eat snow or suck on ice to quinch my thirst.

Bedding was almost never an issue. I would always find a place to lay my head either tucked up out of sight under a bridge or in an abandoned home. But there were times when all I could do was walk....and hope.

Life wasn't always this way. The first 7 years of my life was what I would consider "happy times",until the divorce came and sent me swirling down a vicious spiral that would take me years to climb out of.

My mother was a nurse. "I wiped butts for a living", is what she would say,and my father, well he was mostly unemployed. I now know that those times were extremely hard, but that was something that my young mind,at the time ,couldn't comprehend.

I was the youngest of 4 children from that marriage.

I was homeless as I escaped an abusive relationship. My family didn't want to take me in out of fear my ex would show up. My friend at the time then helped me with hotels until I worked enough to pay her back. She passed away from cancer a few years ago.

It's sad to see society look down upon and generalize homelessness as irresponsibility, but really there's many unfortunate people put into these situations by their own parents like these people, or things out of their control. If anyone I knew were in such a situation I'd be the first to help. I wish society could be more open to helping these people

There are so many factors that can lead to a person being homeless, some of them are: an unloving/prejudiced family, homeless parents, mental illness, having a criminal record which makes it harder to get a job, addictions of all kinds (and there are generally issues that lead to addiction, addiction doesn't exist in a vacuum--there's often a real heavy reason why people begin to abuse substances), domestic violence, and the list could go on.

Just posting to help people think about this issue. Feel free to share your insights as well.

Nothing worse than being homeless when you get out of school. So get the information, being homeless is bad. But being stupid is what's really bad. And what's really, really bad is being homeless and stupid - unless you are sick. That's about as far as you can fall, well unless you're ugly.

TLDR; The ultimate negative life: ugly, homeless, sick and stupid

The idea that someone would say "I remember when you were homeless" as a jab makes me sick. People can be so heartless.

I was homeless in the fifth and sixth grade. There really isn't a way to describe how you feel in that situation. If you know, you know. Technically I'm homeless again, but in a slightly better situation than before. I remember having to skip meals, unable to brush my teeth or shower as much, sharing one king sized bed with my whole family of 7, moving to different hotel rooms every night, feeling lost and isolated at school, all of it was shitty. It's an experience that changes you and how you see the world. Nothing lasts forever. Sometimes life will just suck and continue to suck for a long time.

i remember when I begged my mother to get this homeless woman and her child a meal when i was younger, but she wouldn’t let me. she told me that all homeless people were “dirty and they did that to themselves”, but i didn’t believe that since everyone is different. that’s weird coming from her, since she told me “oh, be thankful that you’re not homeless” and “help those less fortunate.” i really regret not helping them and i hope they’re doing okay. :(

I was homeless in college and one of the RA's ended up sharing her dorm room with me. I'm now a lawyer and I live alone in a house that I own in Hawaii. I would not be here without everyone that helped me. Thank you!

I'm from the Netherlands and we use two words to differentiate homeless people.
Dakloos en thuisloos, which translate to roofless and homeless. The roofless are people that don't have a roof above their head. They mainly sleep on the streets or in shelters. The homeless are people that have a roof above their head but not a home to come home to. I used to be homeless, but I could always sleep at friends and family. I didn't have a place to actually call home, but always had a roof above my head. Even if that roof was for a short time.
